Every day, almost all of us sit with our phones or computers and read about how the world is progressing in so many areas and dimensions. You find yourself in the comfort of technology and science at every second of your existence. But what you forgot to take note of amidst all this ‘comfort’ and ease’, is your lethargic body, your declining stamina, your diet which has almost become a compromise, and a sleep schedule that is almost non-existent. The exhausting modern life has taken away our attention from our own selves as a result of which various kinds of toxins enter our body and the natural mechanism finds it difficult to beat that. But we don’t have to just focus on the negative part of the story. While a lot of people are subconsciously sabotaging their health and fitness, a great number of people are growing woke and aware of such grave problems, and it is with their help that the word ‘Detox’ has become a thing of normality.

All of us are striving to detox our bodies and take it back to its pristine stage. What we sometimes need is a little assistance in order to understand how to go about it. When we say that yoga has a solution for almost all your problems, we hundred percent mean it. Therefore, without further ado, here’s a list of a few great ways to detox your body with the help of yoga.

Marichyasana I

This asana is popularly known for its ability to improvise the functioning and the mechanisms of the stomach and intestine. It allows appropriate diffusion of pressure by spinal bending and exhalation. This rigorous practice eventually leads to a strengthening of the intestinal muscles. It is the perfect asana to make the process of absorption, at the level of the small intestine as well as large, to speed up thus ensuring the flow of nutrients into the bloodstream as well as maintaining a good enough metabolism of the body.

How to do:

  1. Start by sitting with both the legs in front of you.
  2. Bend your right knee so that your right foot sits flat on the ground.
  3. Now, turn your upper body slowly towards your left leg. Start folding forward, grab your wrist with your other hand behind your back.
  4. Slowly, just keep folding forward and continue the process of inhalation and exhalation.
  5. Continue for 5-6 long breaths and then repeat on the other side.

Salabhasana

This pose ensures the strength of your entire back body. It allows the opening of the heart and ensures a good posture. A good posture and good flow of the blood ensure that all that you eat undergoes an efficient mechanism of digestion and therefore allows the removal of all kinds of toxins from your body.

How to do:

  1. Begin by lying on your stomach with your arms on the sides.
  2. Then slowly lift your chest and arms. Make your arms reach back towards your feet.
  3. Lift your leg up slightly and then ensure that your body weight is entirely on your lower ribs, belly and front pelvis.
  4. Keep your breath even and hold this position for one minute. Then, while you exhale, slowly release your boy to the ground.

Simple Spine Twisting Pose

With the twisting of your spine, this yoga pose results in the massaging of your internal organs. This ensures a flow of fresh blood and nutrients back into your digestive organs. The massaging of the abdominal organs facilitates the digestion process and also helps secreting certain digestive juices in your body.

How to do:

  1. Sit on the floor in a cross legged position.
  2. Sit with your back straight and as you inhale, put your right hand flat on the floor behind you while resting your left hand on your right knee.
  3. On exhalation start twisting yourself. Hold the position for 4-5 breaths and then switch sides.

Plow Pose

This asana helps in the opening up of the neck, shoulders, and the back of the body. It works like the twisting pose since it involves the massaging of the abdominal organs. It improves the process of digestion by toning the digestive organs. It also stimulates the thyroid gland which relieves excess phlegm and mucus. It nourishes the spine thus resulting in curing the problems of headaches, infertility, insomnia, indigestion etc.

How to do:

  1. Start off by lying on your back with your arms at your sides.
  2. Slowly try to bring your torso perpendicular to the floor. With your legs fully extended, try to bring your feet to touch the floor. If you’re unable to do that support your back with your hands and continue to lower your leg as much as possible.
  3. Hold the pose for 3-4 minutes and the slowly release the pose.

Shoulder Stand

While it seems like this pose is quite the effort, the benefits that it brings to you make it totally worth it. As we can see from the pose itself that it helps in improving circulation to the upper body and the brain thus resulting in a better supply of oxygen and nutrition. It also helps in relieving swollen legs and relaxes your muscles. However, one of the most important things that this pose does is to improve digestion. The effect of gravity on the digestive organs is reversed and therefore a movement of all the stuck wastes and toxins start taking place as they are ready to be shed away.

How to do:

  1. Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor.
  2. Then slowly straighten your legs while simultaneously raising your hips to an angle of 45-60 degrees.
  3. Try lifting your hips further and support your back with your hands.
  4. Hold this pose for 2-3 minutes and then slowly ease out.

Follow these Yoga practices to start with that detox you’ve been planning since forever. However, don’t forget that you also need to simultaneously improve your lifestyle and dietary habits for best results. Eat, sleep and live healthy!
