Independence Day Celebration at Rishikul Yogshala: A Morning of Unity and Reflection
On the 15th of August, the Rishikul Yogshala Kerala family celebrated India’s Independence Day with a spirited and heartfelt ceremony. Our students, representing diverse countries and cultures, participated in the traditional flag-hoisting ceremony in the school courtyard, following their early morning asana classes. This day is not only a reflection of the historic struggle for freedom but also a reminder of the strength, will-power, and unity that define our nation. At Rishikul Yogshala, we honor this freedom, which is also the foundation of our yoga teachings.
As the national flag ascended into the cool morning air, the Rishikul Yogshala family cheered for our motherland with great enthusiasm. It was truly moving to see yogis from around the world embracing this day of freedom with such unity and sentiment. This celebration resonated deeply with all present, symbolizing the very freedom these seekers came from afar to experience and share through yoga.
Our distinguished teacher, Shri Gangesh Chaitaniya, addressed the gathering, recounting the nation’s history of foreign invasions and the people’s relentless struggle for independence. Shri Gangesh utilized this occasion to reintroduce the principle of “ahimsa” (non-violence) in the context of the freedom struggle. This key concept of yogic studies, as outlined in the yoga sutras and other foundational texts, was linked to the Gandhian principles of non-violence, self-rule (“swaraj”), and humanity. The teachings were presented in a way that connected historical struggles with everyday applications, offering valuable insights to our students. Swami Atma and Prana Ji further enriched this discussion, empowering students through engaging dialogues on freedom and self-empowerment. This morning proved to be a significant milestone in the journey of our yoga-life seekers at Rishikul Yogshala.
The ceremony concluded with a shared singing of patriotic songs, celebrating the glory of our nation. The Rishikul family enjoyed sweets in a spirit of love and harmony. As they parted ways, they vowed to carry forward the message of love and freedom, striving to make the world a better place, free from crime and negativity.
